# MaxMind: GeoIP Database

Got a quick note from Ed Lin at [MaxMind](http://www.maxmind.com/) that their free, country-level GEOIP database is updated monthly. You can get the updated files [here](http://www.maxmind.com/app/geoip_country).
This is in response to some out-of-date info in an old article ([here](http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/MySQL/Create-a-IP-Country-Database-Using-PERL-and-MySQL/) and [here](http://reference.html.com/question.php?qstId=9)) I wrote.
Most of this article is now deprecated, and the [GrabIP](http://www.pierzchala.com/grabip/) service is the only remaining element on my site.
