Adobe Buys Macromedia: Bullshit and Dinosaurs

Kottke has a great summary of the links for the Adobomedia/Macrodobe story here.

In my opinion, this quote sums up what is wrong with this merger.

The combination of Adobe and Macromedia strengthens our mission of helping people and organizations communicate better. Through the combination of our powerful development, authoring and collaboration tools – and the complementary functionality of PDF and Flash – we have the opportunity to drive an industry-defining technology platform that delivers compelling, rich content and applications across a wide range of devices and operating systems. The Adobe and Macromedia Marketing/Press Relations teams need the help of the Bullfighter software.
Flash makes web products that are great for online games…and useless for anything else. Adobe makes a PDF reader, which I can replace with any number of free readers.
I can feel gravity dragging this merger into the pit of despair.
I agree with Om Malik and Russell Beattie — I vote “-1” on this merger.

Ahh an open mind… I think you should look around, I think you will find flash is being used in more places than you first think. How about all the new pre-movie slides being replaced by flash, or the touch screen kiosks, flash based menus popping up in fast food chains, or the fact that our office saves thousands a month by using flash audio and video chat rather than phone lines for inter-office communication, how about the removal of technical constraints when designing for the web.
try looking at http://www.rr.com/flash. this kind of integration of design, usability, and data display could not be achieved any other way. (be sure to look up a stock the graph system is beyond compare).
Flash is also extremely powerful when combined with products like Swf Studio, and MMD studio, with which you can create extremely interactive and highly scalable applications.
When will the old school guys let go of the antiquated systems of the Internet past? It’s all about WYSIWYG now guys. 😉
