Gutter Helmet: Not alone with installation problems

Hey everybody! Looks like someone else had a bad experience with a Gutter Helmet installer. [here]

Berry was dismayed to discover that his $3,500 gutter-protection system appeared to be inviting one of the very maintenance nightmares it was supposed to protect against: roof rot. Two leaks sprang up after the pricey helmets had been installed, he claimed, which caused rainwater to build up underneath the custom-fitted panels and drip down behind the gutter “for days” after a rainfall.

Hmmm…I sure hope that my local rep manages to find some time in his busy schedule to call me back. Soon.

We encountered the same problems, leaking and no responsibility attitude on the part of Gutter Helmet of Evansville. We were supplied with an addendum to the “warranty” in which all liability is disclaimed.
Both contractor who is making repairs and our home owners adjustor cannot believe these helmet covers were installed in the manner they were. We litterally had raining in our kitchen and entry way from the water improperly draining due to the improper installation.
Very very bad experience with gutter helmet would never recommend to anyone. it is a sad day when companies are so eager to take your hard-earned money and leave you with defective installation that over time causes such damage. How would I know proper installation, I am not the professional, they gutter helmet people are supposed to be the professionals. If they are so professional, why do they not stand behind their product, installation included.

  3. Dear sirs:
I am writing in the hopes that you care about your name your product and your company. In Dec. of 2007 I contacted your local representative Huff’n puff 110 Rotterdam industrial park Schenectady, NY 12306 .I liked the product but the price was something I had to think over. Jan 12 08 despite the fact that estimate looked like it was written by a two year old I signed to have two houses done on May 30 2008 first thing in the morning. I did not catch the fact that he left out the six foot chimney on the house, that I can only hope I was not charged for. I cut short a fishing trip short screwing over three other people to get home. I got a call saying there were running a little late put would be there. 2:15 they roll in to say they can only do the smaller house . The other one needs major work and a down spout that they don’t have BS I saw some in the truck and I would be charged for (not what the sale guy said when I signed). I let it go, the guys didn’t want to have to work all night. I rescheduled for Jun 20 again for first thing in the morning asked for the same crew told them I needed at least three men because the runs that had to be reset were so long no problem. In the mean time I get over billed for over one thousand dollars for the first job, a couple more calls and (o right we did, well credit your card) week or so later no credit on my card yet so a couple more call and I fined out they can’t get it back on my card BS ( I can call capital one or they can send me a check) finely I get a check. So the 20 th comes around two guys show up not three with the paperwork to do the small house that was already done. Unbelievable. More phone calls I get the new serve guy Bill, go through it all with him, he’s the man, sets it up for July 7, he know his shit , been doing it for 30 years, he will be there in person to help with the long run . The 7th comes two crews show, no Bill, the one guy in charge is the only guy from the first crew and at that time he had only been working for them 5 months. The other three had no clue. I was told (Bill) was only going to send out one two man crew that morning . I don’t blame the workers , its not there fault they are untrained and unsupervised. I will let the attached pictures speak for them selves. At this point I’m just to beat down , I singed the survey a because they said they would not get paid if I didn’t and I just want it to be over. All in all this has been the all time worst experience I could ever have imagined. I may have left out some of the smaller details but once again I will let the pictures speak for them selves as for the workmanship. Please let me know what you think of the situation and the quality of the work.

  5. Thats why it is important to choose a company carefully… always ask for previous examples of work they have done and references from other people.

  7. My mother, 74 years old purchased Gutter Helmet. It was installed on the front of the house only due to the cost. The first heavy rain she had, approx 6 months after installation, her basement flooded. She has lived in this home for over 45 years and nothing like this happened previously. At 74 years old she was vacuuming up the water and carrying out pail after pail of water upstairs and outside. When she called the company, they would not return her calls. My husband took over trying to reach them and had the same problems. When he finally did get in touch the installation supervisor/manager he was rude, argumentative, unwilling to listen at all and insisted Gutter Helmet was not the problem. This went on for approx. 3 weeks. Not hearing back from him we tried to get in touch with the owner of that particular Gutter Helmet. After 2 weeks of calling and leaving messages almost every day he finally returned our call. He also was terribly rude, argumentative and didn't stop long enough to listen to the problem jumping in very defensively. When he finally relented and said he would come out to the house he let it be known it would NOT change his idea or opinion of his product since “his product never fails”. We had written to the Better Business Bureau and that is the only reason he called and scheduled an appointment. As of Monday April 27, 2009 this matter has NOT been resolved.
